Contemporary Weaver Creating Rustic, Sustainable Homeware in West Cork
About Me | The Artful Weaver
Hi, I’m Nikita — a weaver of soft materials and a nature-lover, I live in a cottage over looking the rolling hills of Enniskeane and the formidable Kinneigh Round Tower,
I work mostly with paper string and natural fibres, using a basketry technique called twining to create sculptural forms that feel both grounded and playful. I’m especially drawn to making lanterns and lightshades — pieces that transform when lit, casting gentle shadows and a sense of calm.
My process is slow and intuitive. I don’t use a loom, just my hands and a deep love of texture and shape. Some of my favourite pieces begin as walks by the sea, collecting beach stones or bits of inspiration from the landscape. Others come from colour experiments or simple curiosity.
When I’m not weaving, I’m usually outdoors with my dogs, enjoying the rugged landscapes and changing skies of this beautiful corner of the world.
The Artful Weaver is my way of sharing this connection to place, process, and quiet creativity — with a focus on sustainability, storytelling, and the joy of handmade things.
