The Meaning Behind My Woven Talismans

At the end of a busy year, or the start of a new one, we all seek something small that carries meaning - a little reminder that our lives, our homes, and the people we care about are worthy of attention and care.

That’s the heart of my talisman cards. Each one is handmade with paper string, carefully woven into a knot and mounted on hessian fibre, making them eco-friendly and sustainable. Paired with a short poem or sentiment, these cards are tiny gifts with soul.

The Knots and their meaning

The Harvest Knot

The Harvest Knot is one of the oldest of these traditions. Generations ago, at the end of the harvest, families would plait simple knots from the last sheaf of grain. These knots were given to loved ones as charms - to bring luck, abundance, and protection for the year ahead. I love that such a small, simple thing could carry so much hope. When I weave these knots today, I try to carry the same intention in my hands: gratitude for the year past, and a quiet wish for good things to come.

Mo Anam Cara - My Soul Friend

The Mo Anam Cara talisman is a Celtic Love Knot, an unbroken pattern symbolising connection and loyalty. It’s for people who walk beside us through life - our soul friends, our confidants, the ones who see us for who we are without needing an explanation. When you give someone a Mo Anam Cara Card, you’re sharing not just a beautiful piece of craft, but a recognition of that deep, enduring bond.

Hearth and Home

The Hearth and Home talisman features a Celtic Eternity Knot. It’s three points represent balance, protection and unity. This knot is a reminder of the strength and warmth found in a home - whether that home is a new place, a long-loved space, or simply the home we carry within ourselves. The sentiment that accompanies this talisman is a gentle invitation to slow down, settle in, and cherish the spaces we inhabit.

Why I Make Talismans

I began weaving talismans because I wanted to create small, meaningful pieces that people could give or keep with intention. In a world full of mass produced objects, it’s easy to forget that even the smallest gift can carry heart. Each knot, each weave, each card is made by hand - slow, deliberate, thoughtful.

They’re a way to reconnect with history, with craft and with quiet moments that matter most. A talisman card can be a gift, a keepsake, or a reminder to yourself to pause and breathe.

A Gift with Meaning

One of the things I love most about these talismans is how versatile they are. They fit easily into a card or stocking, can be posted directly to a loved one, and yet they feel personal and intentional. They are small gifts, yes - but gifts with soul.

Whether you are looking for a token of friendship, a blessing for a new home, or simply something to remind someone you’re thinking of them, these talisman cards are a gentle, heartfelt choice.
