Introductory to Coiling Workshop 5th September 2025
Coiled Basketry Workshop – 5th September 2025
Join me for the first in a series of autumn workshops at the West Cork Collective.
In this session, you'll learn the ancient technique of coiled basketry — a method that dates back thousands of years, possibly as far as the Neolithic period. Traditionally crafted from grasses or heather, coiled baskets are known for their strength and durability.
We’ll be working with raffia, a soft, flexible natural fibre made from the leaves of the raffia palm. It’s a wonderful material for beginners and lends itself beautifully to this slow, meditative process.
By the end of the session, you'll have:
✔ Learned the basics of the coiling technique
✔ Gained confidence in working with raffia
✔ Made your own small basket to take home
No experience necessary – just bring your curiosity and willingness to try something new.
